da apostaganha: Sunderland should be on red alert after Marcus Maddison’s social media post on Tuesday night, as the playmaker extraordinaire congratulated the Black Cats on their Checkatrade Trophy success.
What’s the story?
Sunderland cruised past Bristol Rovers in the semi-final of the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night, as goals from Lewis Morgan and Will Grigg capped off a fine team performance.
Maddison was clearly impressed too, saying: “Sunderland off to Wembley, hope they win it,” on his official Instagram page, as reported by Football League World.
The versatile Peterborough ace is from the North East (Durham), and has been linked with Sunderland before, so should the Black Cats swoop for the 25 year-old this summer?

The man to set Will Grigg on fire?
Sunderland currently sit third in the League One standings, but the Black Cats are just two points off the automatic promotion places and still have a game in hand on the teams around them.
If the Black Cats do get promoted, they will need more creators in midfield to help Will Grigg, who is yet to have a successful season in the Championship so far in his career.
Maddison has recorded an incredible 20 assists in all competitions this season, as well as five goals, and this comes after he racked up 12 goals and 23 assists in the last campaign.
He can play on either wing or in the hole behind the striker, and his ability to beat a defender or two before finding a key pass could be just what Grigg needs to finally fire in the second tier.
At 25, with two truly top class seasons under his belt, Maddison has room to grow into one of the Championship’s finest players, and it seems unlikely he will stay with the Posh if they cannot secure promotion this term.
If that is the case, the Black Cats would be foolish not to capitalise on the player’s passion for his roots with a summer move.
