On the chalkboard
Ramsey first joined Arsenal as a teenager in 2008, from his boyhood club Cardiff City. In his decade with the north London club, Ramsey has certainly had an impact. He has won three FA Cups with Arsenal, scoring the winning goal in two of the finals. In his time with the Gunners, he has also developed into a fine midfielder whose qualities will be hard to replace.
The loss of Ramsey certainly has big implications for Emery, who is responsible for finding a way to thrive without the midfielder.
Moving on
Tactically, Ramsey offers Arsenal something that none of his teammates can replicate. Blessed with a phenomenal engine, the 58-cap Wales international can run all day, making him ideally suited to a hard-pressing system. What’s more, the No. 8 is also an excellent dribbler, and has the confidence to take his opponents on in the final third.
If Emery can’t identify and acquire a replacement who matches these attributes then the Spaniard will have to ensure that his side are set up in a system that doesn’t require or rely on them.
