da betsul: Manchester United have wasted no time in finding a temporary replacement for the recently sacked Jose Mourinho as they hire club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their caretaker manager, and the Norwegian’s appointment will surely excite Jesse Lingard.
On the chalkboard
Lingard has found opportunities unusually hard to come by this season as he has made just nine starts and accumulated just 722 minutes of Premier League football, despite his versatility.
The 26-year-old’s quality in the final third is undeniable, and he always pops up with goals in big games, but a combination of injuries and some poor form has seen him fall by the wayside this season.
Solskjaer’s arrival could be just what the England international needs to get back to last season’s form though, as the new boss’ free-flowing style will create loads of space for the Red Devils’ pacy attackers.

The perfect formation?
Mourinho clearly trusted Lingard, as the academy product played in various positions in various systems for the Portuguese tactician. Unfortunately though, this meant he never settled into a position where he can consistently score and create goals.
Solskjaer is expected to deploy a 4-3-3 when he arrives at Old Trafford, which might be really good news for Lingard, who could excel as the most advanced member of the midfield three.
Mourinho often deployed three defensive-minded players in his midfield, but most managers opt for at least one attack-minded star in their midfield trio, and Lingard’s vision, speed, goals and work rate make him the perfect candidate.
A vote of confidence
While it’s not always this simple, it’s perfectly possible that the biggest problem in Manchester United’s attack is just a lack of confidence, and the arrival of Solskjaer will definitely be a boost for Lingard.
The Norwegian legend coached the young Englishman as part of the Under-23 setup, and having a former mentor back on the bench encouraging him to open fire at goal could work wonders for the versatile attacker.
