da dobrowin: Patience is something that has never been associated with any set of supporters but after years of mid-table obscurity, millions of pounds wasted on useless players and an unimpressive start to the new season you can understand that Ipswich fans are feeling frustrated.
da casino: I could write about why everyone should feel sorry for Ipswich fans after seeing their club being badly run for so many years, but sadly there are many other teams that are even worse off and the Tractor Boys are in no way any more deserving of sympathy than other club.
In fact, I personally feel frustrated with what many Ipswich fans are coming out with. Many are frustrated with Mick McCarthy, saying that he is deluded and others are simply dwelling on mistakes that were made in recent years.
However, I could not disagree more with the majority of opinions that are being voiced around Portman Road.
First of all, I do not understand what is so bad about the teams start to the season? Reading and QPR away are the two hardest fixtures of the season and in both games Ipswich only lost by one single goal. In both games the Suffolk side did just about deserve to lose but given the obvious gap in current reputation and spending power neither of those games should have even been that close.
You would expect Ipswich to beat a team like Millwall at home and they comfortably thrashed them 3-0. Just taking these three games into consideration Ipswich had made a solid start to the season.
The Leeds game was always going to be a good test in my eyes as I believe that they are a team around the same level as McCarthy’s side. It was disappointing to lose at home to a team that we should probably be at least drawing against but if you analyse the performance in detail the result becomes easier to take.
Ipswich were the better team on the whole but just weren’t ruthless up front when they were at their best. To top it off Leeds were slightly fortunate with the way they scored and fortunate with the timing of both goals as it took the momentum away from Ipswich.
Overall the team didn’t play badly and on another day would have won that game. I do believe that there is a fair argument in saying that the Tractor Boys could do with bringing in a quality poacher but I do not believe that McCarthy can be blamed for failing to sign one either.
Every manager wants to improve his team and the former Wolves boss is no different. I’m sure he would love to bring in a DJ Campbell style striker, but despite what anyone at the club says – the truth is that they can’t afford to make any more permanent additions.
The main point I want to make is that Ipswich have made a deceptively good start to the season. Taking three points from four games looks bad but considering the performances and quality of the opponents I think that nobody should be too disappointed.
One last thing I wanted to mention is that the club charging over £40 to see just an average Championship game doesn’t help relieve the supporters stress at all.
I am still amazed at the stupidity of Ipswich’s pricing system and am a firm believer that whilst the club are starting to make some better decisions, they are also still making some mistakes in areas such as the ticket pricing.
