da fazobetai: Interim Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo has stated that he is focussed on trying to help the club have a successful remainder of the season, and wants the players to re-group.
The Stamford Bridge club dismissed Andre Villas Boas on Sunday, with the Italian standing in until the end of the season.
With the Blues currently in fifth place in the Premier League, Di Matteo knows there is work to be done.
“It has been a very difficult 24 hours for a lot of people at the football club. We need to re-group for sure,” he told Chelsea’s official website.
“Today I have mostly spoken to the players individually to try to get them in the right frame of mind for the task ahead and that is our job now.
“Andre has brought some very good, positive ideas and changes to this football club and we will benefit from his changes.
“I enjoyed very much working with him and we will remain friends for the rest of our lives, but I will have to move on for this club and try my best with the players we have here.
“Our duty now is to look forward and to try to get the results that we need in the league, the Champions League and in the FA Cup to have a good season,” he confessed.
A number of potential long-term replacements have been coined, with Rafa Benitez reportedly on Roman Abramovich’s list, but the Spaniard has refused to confirm whether he is a contender for the position or not.
“You never like to see any manager lose his job,” Bentitez told Sky Sports.
“It is a pity, but you can see football going very quick when before people were more patient. Now you have to win almost every week.
“I experienced it in Spain and Italy where it is even worse because after two or three weeks you are under pressure and you have to accept the situation.
“I would like to have in the future a top club, a top side that you can fight for the title and you can challenge.
“That was the idea always when I came to Liverpool – we were winning trophies at the beginning and after Inter it was the same and Spain was the same,” he concluded.
