Arsenal may have to begin preparing for life without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the striker will enter the final year of his contract in the summer.
The 29-year-old has been key to the Gunners since joining, as his return of 61 goals in 96 games would suggest, and that has led the club to scout Gent striker Jonathan David, who is impressing with his prolific goalscoring rate in Belgium.
David has 23 goals and 10 assists in 39 games this term despite being only 20 years of age, and according to Goal he is high up on Arsenal’s list of potential replacements for Aubameyang.
Some supporters are questioning such decision-making, as it would be a risk to trust a young player with the responsibility of not only replacing the team’s highest goalscorer, but also the captain.
They have made their feelings known in the reactions below, sharing the view that David is not yet ready to replace someone of Aubameyang’s calibre.
On the other hand, it is believed that the striker could be purchased for £17.5m, which means he could prove to be a bargain in today’s market, and so the club could decide to sign him regardless of what happens with their skipper.
Judging by the comments from some supporters it would seem that such a move would be a popular one, as David has impressed with his goalscoring record.

He could flourish under Arteta, too, who has already got the best out of young players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, who have both impressed fans with recent performances.
