da spicy bet: Everton are in desperate need of a new centre back this summer, and they would absolutely foolish not to move on Alfie Mawson after his price tag was revealed.
What’s the story?
da pinup bet: According to Sky Sports, West Ham, Fulham and Burnley are all interested in Swansea’s Mawson, who the Championship club value at “more than £20m”.
The report claims West Ham have already had “a number of bids” rejected this summer, so the Hammers are clearly the ones to watch in the chase for his signature.
Manuel Pellegrini has already attracted some incredible signings to East London, and Everton will have no chance of competing with the Hammers if they let them get Mawson.
The East Londoners have already reinforced their defence with Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop, and adding Mawson would give them an excellent range of promising centre backs.
Everton probably need a centre back more than any team in the league right now, with Phil Jagielka ageing fast, Michael Keane frustrating fans and Mason Holgate still very raw.
Mawson was an absolute brick wall in a poor Swansea side last season, and a fee of around £20m should be a no brainer for Brands and Silva.

Better than Keane?
The one thing that Mawson and Keane both share is a lack of pace. The Toffees have been suffering this problem for a while, as the likes of Jagielka and Leighton Baines have started to lose any pace they once had. Silva is desperate to inject some youthful exuberance into the team.
Where Mawson differs to Keane though is his excellent positional sense, which means his lack of speed isn’t really a problem. Keane played in a deep block at Burnley, meaning once he came to a more open and expansive Everton side his poor positioning was exposed.
Mawson’s Swansea weren’t exactly Manchester City, but they did play more openly than Burnley, so Mawson shouldn’t have as much trouble adapting at Goodison.
Yerry Mina has been heavily linked with a move to Goodison, but Keane’s poor form is starting to become a real concern, and it may just be time for Silva and Brands to cut their losses and completely overhaul the defence.
If they were to bring Mina in on loan and sign Mawson for around £20m, it would give them an excellent mix of ball playing ability, athleticism, intelligence and leadership all for less than the price Keane cost last summer.
So, Everton fans, do you think Mawson at around £20m would be a good move? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
