da apostaganha: As reported by The Daily Star, Manchester United are set to rival Liverpool for the signature of Napoli midfielder Jorginho in this summer’s transfer window.
What’s the story?
da dobrowin: With the potential departures of Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini at the end of the season, Jose Mourinho will need to bring in some fresh midfield talent if he’s to ensure the club progress and compete for honours next term.
One player he has his eye on is Italian international Jorginho.
That’s according to The Daily Star, who say that United are set to tempt Napoli to let go of the 26-year-old with an initial £50m bid.
However, it might not be plain sailing in their efforts to sign him, with the paper also reporting that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the midfielder and sees him as a potential replacement for Emre Can.
Who is he?
With over 150 appearances for Napoli, Jorginho is seen as one of the Italian club’s most important players and his form this season has helped them to the top of the Serie A table with just 11 games remaining.
An all-rounder who can defend and move the ball forward into the final third, he could be an ideal replacement for likes of Carrick and Fellaini, certainly having the credentials and experience after four-and-a-half season at Napoli.
At 26 years of age, he’s coming into his prime and spending the money to tie him down to his best years at Old Trafford could be an inspired bit of business from United.
