da bet7k: The Saints front-man, who is in his first season in the top flight, has bagged an impressive 13 goals already, with his most recent coming against boyhood club Liverpool on Saturday.
Some had doubted Lambert’s ability to perform at the highest level, dubbing him as a lower league forward.
But, his tally makes him the highest scoring Englishman in division, which has led to speculation he has been considered for an international call-up.
The 31-year-old revealed that he cannot quite believe how well his first Premier League season has gone:
“I am still pinching myself, I am really enjoying the season.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.
“Obviously there have been some lows but the highs have been unbelievable and I am confident there are plenty more to come in my career, hopefully at Southampton.”
Their weekend win over Liverpool moved the South Coast outfit a little closer to Premier League safety.
Lambert feels that the result will serve as a confidence boost, but he also believes that there is still much work to be done:
“It is going really well but we’re still not safe, there are still points to be taken, but the lads are absolutely buzzing after that result.
“I think we have been unlucky these last few weeks and deserved a few more points than what we’ve got. But I don’t really like saying that, I am just happy to say we got the three points.”
