da dobrowin: One of the best holding midfielders the Premier League has seen this decade, it’s fair to say Nemanja Matic’s career in the past couple of seasons has taken a sharp decline.
da cassino: In his highly successful time at Chelsea, the Serbian was a complete animal in the middle of the park, breaking up play and protecting the back four as good as anyone in the division. As per Whoscored, in the Blues’ title-winning campaign in the 2014/2015 season, Matic recorded 3.6 tackles, two interceptions and 2.2 dribbles per game.
Contrast that to his numbers last season, and it really does paint a picture. The 31-year-old averaged just 1.8 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and one dribble per game over the course of the Premier League season, and it’s therefore been little surprise to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer move away from using him this year.
He has played just five times across all competitions, and now, The Telegraph report that he is eyeing a move away from the club – possibly as early as the upcoming January transfer window.
After hearing the update on Matic’s future, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the midfielder.
Many Red Devils supporters revealed both their delight and relief at potentially seeing the £40m man finally go, with some fans hailing Solskjaer for clearing out the “deadwood”.
