da bet vitoria: Celtic will look back on the January transfer window as successful as they rebuffed approaches for Jozo Simunovic and also saw Erik Sviatchenko remain loyal to the Scottish champions, The Daily Record reports.
What’s the word?
da doce: Celtic may not have made any big purchases in the January transfer window but Brendan Rodgers will look back on the mid-season window as successful, as the Scottish champions managed to keep hold of their key-players amidst interest from the Premier League and abroad.
The Bhoys withstood pressure from Chelsea, who were chasing goalkeeper Craig Gordon and young striker Moussa Dembele, whilst also rebuffing the interest from Torino in defender Jozo Simunovic- and another key-man wasn’t interested in a departure.
Erik Sviatchenko’s agent has revealed approaches were made for his client’s services in the January window as a number of Premier League sides were linked; with Burnley, Swansea, Southampton and Leicester all making enquiries late in the window.
However, the Danish international was never interested in a move.
What was said?
Quoted by The Daily Record, Sviatchenko’s agent Allan Bak Jensen said:
“Erik feels at home at the club and in the city.”
How important is this?
Very. Celtic may find it difficult to keep hold of these four players come the end of the season but Brendan Rodgers will have more time to find replacements, whilst they can also expect to earn a higher fee from each of their key-men.
Celtic look on-course to retain their title but keeping hold of these players is important both now and in the future, as the Scottish side aim to become more of a nuisance to the bigger sides in the Champions League over the next few years.
